Str8 – DawgZ Team Overview
Practice
- Practices are held on Wednesday at First Gethsemane Church from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Kids are expected to come to practice prepared and on time.
- Please be sure your child has plenty of water as staying hydrated is extremely important.
- If your child should be late for practice, please call one of the coaches to give us notice.
- However if child’s tardiness is due to his own decision making i.e., forgetting shoes, playing around on the phone, or on the video game etc, then that child will have to endure the consequences of not being prepared.
- Any tardiness that’s at the fault of the parent; the child will not be held accountable.
Games
- For the spring we plan to play in the J Town league as well as Mid America League.
- Recent developments our 6th grade team will be playing in Mid America starting this Friday March the 13th.
- Those games would be every Friday going forward, with the exception of Friday April the 10th. (that Friday is the conclusion of spring break)
- There will also be a tournament at the end of the season
- Our 5th grade team will continue to play in the Neighborhood House league.
- That season will end Saturday March the 21st at the conclusion of the tournament.
- We are in the process of setting up our 3rd and 4th graders to play in the J-Town league. That league starts on April 18th.
- In addition those leagues, New Legacy Sports & YHI will be hosting our own games. Those dates would be announced at a later time.
Playing Time
- Str8 DawgZ is an AAU competitive based basketball team.
- This means all playing time is based solely on a player’s production, attitude, and effort.
- I try my best to play every player on the roster every single game. However, this isn’t always possible.
- If your child isn’t playing much, we will do our best in practice to have him as prepared as possible for when his opportunity arrives.
- Here at Str8 DawgZ we focus heavily on development. Your child will be placed on a team and league based on his skill set to ensure that he gets every opportunity and that every parent has the same experience.
- Fees
- For the spring season each parent is responsible for $150.00 for each child you have in the program. Fees are non-refundable and will be due no later than Friday March 20th .

Attire
- Players are expected to come to practice in proper basketball attire. That’s basketball shorts or jogging sweats and Tennis shoes. (Pajamas, jeans, uniform pants, etc are not appropriate for basketball practice.)
- Players in Crocs, slides, sandals etc. will not be allowed to participate in practice.
- For all games in the Spring run regardless of Grade division all jerseys will be provided by the team, and at the conclusion of every game will be collected and washed.
- For the summer, new jerseys will be ordered. The jerseys will have the players last names on the backs of the jerseys and they will also have backpacks
- At that time there will be a vote on warm up suits, as they will increase the team fees.
Communication
Our communication will be made through the band app as well as our Facebook page @ Str8 DawgZ. This includes game and practice times as well as any late adjustments in the team’s schedule.
